LENGTHY ILLNESS CLAIMS J.C.COX

J.C. Cox, 56 years old, died at a local hospital last night after an illness that has
extended over a period of eight months. He had been a patient at the hospital for
the last two months. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 5:30 o’clock
at either the home of his son D.C. Cox, 1116 Foch Street, or the First Christian
Church, Rev, unreadable, pastor of the First Christian Church will officiate.

Mr. Cox had been a resident of Ranger for 10 years, coming here in 1918. He
was a member of the Christian church and was a thirty-second degree Mason,
belonging to the Madill, Okia., lodge. Prior to the time he moved here, he lived in
Kansas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. He is survived by three sons and two
daughters, as follows: J.M. Cox, Borger, E.M. Cox and D.C. Cox, Ranger, Miss
Vera Cox, Borger, and Mrs. Chester Williams, Mexia. Burial will be in the
Evergreen Cemetery.
He was buried on 2 Aug 1928 in Evergreen Cemetery, Ranger, Eastland, TX, USA.⁽²²⁾ He has reference number 10. I was told that this family has 12-13 boys and 1 girl. This information was told to me by Mytra Kay Cox Gentry. --Shirley Williams

John C Cox married Virginia L Parsons by S.M. Redden(MG);(BN) J.R. Lewis.

Death certificate states cause of death as Eplithelomia of left ear (probably a skin cancer) and gives John's occupation as rail roader. It also gives the names and birthplaces of John's parents.

According to the obituary John suffered for eight months. He was married to VIRGINIA Lucinda Parsons on 31 Jan 1892 in ,Knox County,Tennessee. Date from marriage license.

11. VIRGINIA Lucinda Parsons⁽²³⁾ was born on 18 Apr 1874.⁽²⁴⁾ She died on 28 Feb 1905 in Oakland, Marshall, Oklahoma.⁽²⁴⁾ She was buried on 1 Mar 1905 in Oakland Cemetery, Madill, Chickasaw Nation, OK, USA.⁽²⁵⁾ She has reference number 11. Children were:

i. Emmett Monroe Cox⁽²⁶⁾ was born on 9 Oct 1892 in Knox Co, Tn.^{(27) (28)} He died on 27 Nov 1978 in Bakersfield, Ca. ⁽²⁶⁾ He was buried in Bakersfield, Ca. ⁽²⁹⁾
ii. James Mervin "Red" Cox was born on 22 Mar 1896 in Knoxville, Knox, Tenn., USA. He died on 17 Nov 1956 in Farmington, San Juan, N.M., USA.
iii. Dewey Curtis Cox was born on 21 Aug 1898 in Powell Station, TN.⁽³⁰⁾ Jimmy Williams said that all of the boys were born in Tennessee. He died on 7 Jun 1977 in Eastland, Eastland, Tx.^{(30) (30)} He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, Texas. He was buried after 7 Jun 1977 in Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, Texas.
